First 'Oxygen Express' Races Towards Maharashtra Amid Covid Crisis

The Oxygen Express train left the RINL facility in Visakhapatnam to go to Maharashtra

India’s “Oxygen Express” train made its first run on Thursday from Visakhapatnam to Maharashtra, where COVID-19 cases have been rising fast and hospitals have been gasping for oxygen supply for critical patients. The train carrying oxygen tankers left the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) facility at the Andhra Pradesh town Thursday evening.

“Seven empty tankers from… Maharashtra reached Rashtriya Ispat Nigam, Visakhapatnam, early morning today. Liquid medical oxygen (LMO) has been filled in the tankers since morning,” the railways said in a statement on Thursday.

“Each tanker has been loaded with 15 tonnes of LMO and the train started to move towards Maharashtra in the evening. A joint effort by Waltair Division of East Coast Railways, and officials of RINL made the project a success. This will prove to be highly beneficial during the recent upsurge in COVID-19,” the railways said.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted a video of the train preparing to pull out from the RINL facility.

“The first ‘Oxygen Express’ train loaded with liquid medical oxygen tankers has left for Maharashtra from Vizag. Railways continues to serve the nation in difficult times by transporting essential commodities and driving innovation to ensure the well-being of all citizens,” Mr Goyal tweeted.

The railways will run the “Oxygen Express” train from steel plants that produce oxygen to different parts of the country.

“Railways transported essential commodities and kept the supply chain intact even during the lockdown last year and continue to serve the nation in times of emergencies. This time, the movement of ‘Oxygen Express’ towards different parts of the country will help patients and different hospitals,” the railways said. General Manager Vidya Bhusan congratulated the Waltair team led by Divisional Railway Manager Chetan Srivastava for carrying out the task.

The surge in Covid cases in recent weeks has led to what is now being called a deadlier second wave of the pandemic. Several instances of desperate people trying to find oxygen or a hospital bed for friends and relatives are doing the rounds on social media.

More and more are complaining of breathlessness, requiring oxygen support. However, the supply of oxygen has become severely limited due to the sudden jump in demand across cities and towns.

People have gone to social media to seek help, while state governments and the centre are also working to arrange oxygen faster with the help of the private sector.

COVID-19 | Only two hours of oxygen left; 60 patients at risk, says Delhi hospital

The hospital has 510 COVID-19 patients under its care.

Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram hospital, which treats hundreds of coronavirus patients, said at 8 a.m. on Friday that their oxygen stock will last only for two hours, and ventilators and BiPAP are “not working effectively”.

The hospital has 510 COVID-19 patients under its care.

In a statement, the hospital said “25 sickest patients have died in last 24 hrs at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Oxygen will last another 2 hrs. Ventilators and Bipap not working effectively. Resorting to manual ventilation in ICUs and ED.” The BiPAP machine (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) is a non-invasive machine used to provide oxygen to patients.

The statement added that a major crisis is likely and that the lives of another 60 “sickest patients” are in peril. “Need Oxygen to be airlifted urgently. Governments please help,” the hospital said in a statement.

A source at the hospital said “Low pressure oxygen could be the likely cause of at least some of these 25 deaths over the past 24-hour.”

Two other hospitals in the city, Max Smart Hospital and Max Hospital Saket, too said that they had less than an hour’s oxygen supply currently.

“Less than an hour’s Oxygen supplies at Max Smart Hospital & Max Hospital Saket. Awaiting promised fresh supplies from INOX since 1 a.m. Over 700 patients admitted, need immediate assistance,” the hospital said in a statement.

Hospitals in Delhi have been facing an oxygen shortage. Delhi government has blamed Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments for not allowing smooth supply of oxygen from private oxygen plants in the states to Delhi.

Jasprit Bumrah Reacts As Sanjana Ganesan Finds "Good Light", Takes "Great Photos" | Cricket News

Sanjana Ganesan, wife of Jasprit Bumrah, posted a picture on Instagram.© Sanjana Ganesan/Instagram

Newlyweds Jasprit Bumrah and Sanjana Ganesan don’t miss out on the opportunity to do some social media activity, and such was the case when the latter took to Instagram to upload her latest picture on Thursday. Sanjana, a model and TV presenter, shared a picture in a blue top. She captioned the picture “find good light, take great photos”. Her husband and India cricketer Bumrah was one of the first to react, commenting with two heart emojis on her picture.

Bumrah and Sanjana got married on March 15. Bumrah left India’s Test series against England for his wedding, and also missed the ODI and T20I series against the visitors.

Bumrah is currently in Chennai with the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad for the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The couple recently took to social media to celebrate their one-month wedding anniversary, despite not being together to commemorate the occasion.

Bumrah, who finished last season of the IPL as the second-highest wicket-taker with 27 scalps, has gotten off to a slow start this season.

He has bowled well, as his economy rate of just 6.25 shows, but has picked up only four wickets in his first four games.

Mumbai Indians have won two of their first four matches and are currently fourth in the IPL points table.

The defending champions are up against Punjab Kings, who won their opening fixture against Rajasthan Royals, but have fallen to three defeats since.

They will be facing off at the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai.

SpaceX To Launch Crewed Flight To ISS Today After Losing Day To Bad Weather

Crew-2 mission will reuse capsule from Demo-2, the Falcon 9 booster deployed for uncrewed Demo-1 mission

United States:

SpaceX is set to launch its third crew to the International Space Station early Friday (local time), reusing a rocket and crew capsule in a human mission for the first time.

The Crew-2 mission blasts off from pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 5:49 am Eastern Time (0949 GMT), after being delayed a day by adverse weather along the flight path.

“It seems the weather is cooperating, so looks like we will try to launch tomorrow!!!” tweeted French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, who will become the first European to fly on a SpaceX Crew Dragon.

“Our friends on the @Space_Station are expecting us to show up and we don’t want to be late. They even installed my bedroom recently and literally made my bed. Such nice hosts!”

The extra “bed” is necessary to accommodate an unusually large number of people aboard the ISS: 11 in total, as the Crew-2 team overlaps for a few days with Crew-1 astronauts, in addition to three Russian cosmonauts.

Pesquet will be accompanied by Americans Shane Kimbrough and Megan McArthur and Japan’s Akihiko Hoshide.

Crew-1 is set to splash down off the Florida cost on April 28.

It is the third time SpaceX will send humans to the ISS as part of its multibillion dollar contract with NASA under the Commercial Crew Program.

Satellite image taken, released by Maxar Technologies shows launch pad, Falcon 9 rocket and Crew Dragon spacecraft at the Kennedy Space Center ahead of launch

The first mission, a test flight called Demo-2, took place last year and ended nine years of American reliance on Russian rockets for rides to the ISS following the end of the Space Shuttle program.

“In terms of getting the operations ready, it’s always easier the third time you do it,” Daniel Forrestel, a NASA launch integration manager, told AFP.

“I would never ever want to describe spaceflight as ‘routine,’ but ‘more familiar’ is a good way to put it,” he added.

The Crew-2 mission will reuse the capsule from Demo-2 and the Falcon 9 booster previously deployed for the uncrewed Demo-1 mission, a key cost-saving goal of NASA’s partnerships with private industry.

Major step for Europe

Ahead of the launch, European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Andreas Mogensen of Denmark told AFP the mission was also a major step forward for Europe, which has dubbed it “Alpha” after its own naming convention.

“On the one hand, it means a lot of course to have an astronaut going to the International Space Station — but at the same time it’s also the next mission in a long line of missions.”

Germany’s Matthias Maurer will be the next European on a SpaceX mission this fall, followed by Italy’s Samantha Cristoforetti next spring.

ESA will also be a key partner to the United States in the Artemis program to return to the Moon, providing the power and propulsion component for the Orion spacecraft, and critical elements of a planned lunar orbital station called Gateway.

Mogensen predicted that in the hours leading up to the launch, Pesquet, who is a close friend of his, would be feeling a “sense of relief” to finally start the mission after years of planning.

“You’re very focused on what’s going to happen, on your tasks at hand,” he said.

“Thomas and his crewmates have spent hours in a simulator training for this, they’ve gone through the launch procedures, they’ve gone through the docking procedures… there’s not a whole lot of time for nervousness.”

The Crew-2 team has around 100 experiments in the diary during their six-month mission.

These include research into what are known as “tissue chips” — small models of human organs that are made up of different types of cells and used to study things like aging in the immune system, kidney function and muscle loss.

Another important element of the mission is upgrading the station’s solar power system by installing new compact panels that roll open like a huge yoga mat.

After launch, the Falcon 9 rocket will return to Earth for an upright vertical landing on a drone ship, and the Crew Dragon capsule is scheduled to dock with the ISS at 5:10 am (0910 GMT) Saturday, with hatch opening two hours later.

Pesquet and Hoshide have said they plan to liven things up by sharing their national cuisine with crewmates.

The Frenchman’s last meal prior to launch: roast chicken and mashed potatoes, a cheese and baguette platter, and ice cream for dessert.

Mi 11 Ultra and the new Mi 11X series phones are confirmed to launch in India at Xiaomi’s dedicated event today, Friday April 23. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra was unveiled in China last month and the company has confirmed its arrival in the Indian market. The Xiaomi Mi 11X series is rumoured to include the Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro phones and these are expected to be rebranded versions of the Redmi K40, and Redmi K40 Pro+, respectively. The Redmi K40 series from Xiaomi was launched in China earlier this year and has not been launched in the Indian market. Alongside, Xiaomi is looking to launch the Mi QLED TV 75 as well.

Xiaomi’s launch event will begin at 12pm (noon) on Friday April 27, and will be livestreamed on the company’s YouTube channel as well as through its other social platforms. The company has confirmed that the Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11X series and Mi QLED TV 75 will be launched during the event.

Mi Ultra, Mi 11X series, Mi QLED TV 75 price (expected)

A recent leak suggests that the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra may be priced at over Rs. 70,000 in India. If true, this will be the most expensive smartphone launched by Xiaomi in India since its arrival in the country back in July 2014. The phone will be sold online on Amazon India and, at the very least. Offline availability details have not been made clear as yet.

As for the Mi 11X, the phone is expected to be priced starting at Rs. 29,990 for the 8GB + 128GB storage variant and Rs. 31,990 for the 8GB + 256GB storage variant. On the other hand, Mi 11X Pro is expected be priced at Rs. 36,990 for the 8GB + 128GB storage model and Rs. 38,990 for the 8GB + 256GB storage model.

Lastly, the Mi QLED TV 75 from Xiaomi is expected to be priced at under Rs. 1,50,000 — as most other brands with televisions this size are priced considerably higher.

Mi Ultra specifications

As the phone has already been unveiled in China, we know the specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra already. It runs on MIUI 12 based on Android 11, featuring a 6.81-inch 2K WQHD+ (3,200× 1,440 pixels) E4 AMOLED quad-curved display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The phone also has a 1.1-inch (126×294 pixels) AMOLED secondary touch display on the back. This display can be used for taking selfies, see notification alerts, battery info, time, and weather details. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM, and up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.

The Mi 11 Ultra has a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel Samsung GN2 primary wide-angle sensor accompanied by two 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 ultra-wide-angle and tele-macro camera sensors. The tele-macro lens supports 5x optical and 120x digital zoom. The Mi 11 Ultra supports 8K video recording at 24fps with all three sensors. The phone has a 20-megapixel front camera with an f/2.2 lens.

Connectivity options on the phone include 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port for charging. The phone also comes with Harman Kardon stereo speakers, is IP68 certified, and has an in-display fingerprint sensor. There is a 5,000mAh battery inside the Mi 11 Ultra with 67W wired as well as wireless fast charging support, along with 10W reverse wireless charging.

Mi 11X Pro, Mi 11X specifications (expected)

If the Xiaomi Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro are indeed rebrands of the Redmi K40 and Redmi K40 Pro+, respectively, then their specifications should also be more or less identical to the China models.

The Mi 11X and Mi 11X Pro smartphones could therefore feature 6.67-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) AMOLED displays with 120Hz refresh rates. Mi 11X could be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC while Mi 11X Pro could come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Mi 11X series could come with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

In terms of optics, the series may come with triple rear cameras. Mi 11X may carry a 48-megapixel primary rear sensor and Mi 11X Pro could carry a 108-megapixel Samsung HM2 primary sensor. Both phones could be backed by 4,520mAh batteries with support for 33W fast charging.

Mi QLED TV 75 specifications (expected)

The Mi QLED TV 75 specifications are likely to be similar to the Mi TV Q1 75-inch, listed on the company’s global website. It will include a 75-inch QLED screen, run on Android TV 10, offer hands-free access to Google Assistant, and support Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Audio. There will also likely be some India-specific customisations to both the software and hardware, along with some recent features for PatchWall such as the Mi Home app. Xiaomi also announced that the 75-inch television will be made in India, with the company manufacturing all of its Indian models and variants in India itself.
